It's that time of the year when we celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi and every year, I do my best to make chavde. I haven't yet but that's what I'll be busy with over the weekend. I will be several days late but my father always said that the good Lord would understand! Besides, the festival lasts for 10 days, ending on Anant Chaturdashi.

That used to be Medha's prayer when she went to the temple as a toddler. And every time, her Dad would ask her: Well, what about Mumma?
Pfffft! She is already as wise as anyone could possibly be!
If you are celebrating this festival, I hope you brought home green Ganpatis or are using your metal idols instead of the kind that will clog the rivers and muddy the seas.
What treats did you make? Do you have any plans to make more goodies over the weekend? Have a good celebration and I hope the naughty God brings much prosperity to you and yours!

We celebrate this festival only for a day. Traditionally, we make a very small (about an inch high) conical representation of Gnanapathi and after the puja, "visarjan" is done in the well.
Hahaha..i can't stop laughing at medha's prayer. Did you teach her the mommy is wise part??

Rachna, we never brought the Ganpati home when we were growing up. It was too much of a commitment for a family that was uprooted every couple of years to move to another place in India. But others in our extended family did. I had actually come to detest this festival for what it had become: the local goondas would use it to extort money from the families in the area, the noise pollution through the day and late into the night, and then the environmental pollution. It used to be a small family affair that Tilak transformed for political reasons. I like the idea of a small family celebration and that is what we now do. My brass Ganpati plays the role and we don't do any visarjan.

All of us sisters were together for Ganesh Chaturthi after a long gap, and we did our traditional Pun Pooza and made tons of roth, fried as well as the baked kind! Yes, lots of feasting!
Patience is not easy...
I had big plans of making ukdiche modak, for the first time, this year. I should have known ... the best laid plans fall by the wayside when you have a five-month old :D
