Flipping Over and Out...

I will be taking a break for the next couple of weeks, maybe more. I have too much to do and I also want to spend time with Medha before school starts in another three weeks. She has been a very busy girl this summer and I loved seeing so much of her innate character and talents finally begin to emerge. She started a Friday Afternoon Dessert Club in the neighborhood that goes from home to home, making dessert for a lucky family that agrees to host them. Every meeting has a coordinator who sends out a list of ingredients that each member must bring with them. The host family is also welcome to contribute ingredients. They meet at the appointed time, make a dessert, eat at least half of it and leave the rest for the host family to enjoy.

Medha plays a central role because she often has to nudge the next coordinator into action. But she has the maturity to take a step back and hand over complete responsibility to the child who is now in charge. The Club started with large Snickerdoodles for our annual July 4th party. Since then they have made brownies, sundaes and turtles at three other homes in the neighborhood. Their current calendar runs to the end of August. It's an exercise in planning and follow-up, with a sweet return.

I am organizing an Art Expo mainly for the kids in the neighborhood where the kids can display and/or sell their art, baked goodies and services. I am crocheting a small version of this bag with cotton yarn for a raffle. Anyone who buys an item from one of our kids will get a ticket to the raffle. A friend of mine may crochet some skullies and hats as raffle prizes, too. This is the first year for this activity in our neighborhood. The timing is poor since several families are out of town but if it works, I want to do it again and see if we can convert it into Art with a Purpose. Or maybe even take it to the Farmers Market. These are all ideas in my head right now - how much of that will come to fruition, I don't know. For now, my fingers and toes are crossed in the hope that this will work!

My post Lavender Love:May it Grow will grow sometime soon, too. Yes, my oven works without tripping the circuit every 10 minutes!

If you haven't already, please subscribe to my feeds using Google Reader or Bloglines, as Taste of India does not seem to pick up updates to my feed.

Have a great weekend and enjoy the last few weeks of summer doing things with your family and preferably, away from your computer!

Hi Manisha
I frequent you blog often. I have little ones too and wonder how much of my time that I spend on my laptop could be put to better use. The dessert club idea is a lovely one and the art club idea sounds super as well. Have a wonderful "rest of summer" to you too.

I can't wait to see your version of Inga's bag. The ArtExpo sounds like a terrific idea, as does the dessert club. If I lived closer to you, I would have begged to be part of both :)

Medha is so enterprising... So lovely to read what the kids are doing and the art project sounds like a great idea. All the best.

It reminds me of the time when my friends and I had a club where we brought all the books each of us had, labelled them all and created a mini-library of sorts that we could borrow from. Also wrote it all in a notebook to track... :) We also put on shows and conducted quizzes for the parents on somebody's terrace..about once every 2 months and even gave away some prizes with what little money we had saved. Was a lot of fun while it lasted...
