How many bhendi do you want? Is 10 enough?
Bhendi? Or green chillies?
1...2...3...I think I have picked up less than 10. How many do you want?
Bhendi? B-H-E-N-D-I?
Yes. Is 10 enough?

When I recover from this, I will post again.

Don't get me wrong. I am eternally grateful that he does the grocery. For now though, I need to go lie down.

Need one say anything? :) You don't cook bhindi often enough!

No! No! No! You can't make this about me, Anita! He's used to buying trays of bhendi from the Korean store. At the Indian grocer, he has to pick each individual bhindi. Are 10 enough? Good grief! Since all of us like bhindi a lot, I was wondering which one of us would get the 10th one! After being properly chastised, he now wears a sheepish grin on his face...

HKG, (shouldn't it be HGJ? But HKG goes with the 'ji' I guess!) I hope you enjoyed your bhendichi bhaji! We will eat bhendi tomorrow. Right now I am on a Kerala food high. So it will be a Kerala dish.

Whatever you may say, Manisha, your husband is certainly sweet. I wish he got as much coverage on your blog as Medha does.
:-)

LOL! Oh My...
Did he really mean bhendi?
Did he really buy 10 bhendis? Don't worry, you can put that in a sambar. :)

Mine does strange stuff too, but not always hilarious. When I want cilantro, he buys cilantro, parsley and mint. When I say moong dal, he picks moong dal, toor dal & masoor dal! Well, the other day, he brought home packages of flax seeds, pearled barley and dried soybeans. And what did I ask? Sesame seeds!! Of course I got sesame seeds too. I don't know how to stop this habit. My pantry is almost like a supermarket now!! So many unopened packages of stuffs I don't even know what to do with.

You are recovered from the shock now, aren't you? :)

He is so sweet. Looks like he listen to you a lot :)). 10 bhindi?? Does he really count them??? hahahaha.....

My hubby dear cant distinguish between parsley and coriander leaves. Though I have explained it so many times. Still he picks up Parsley everytime :(.

Vashali, yes, he's a real sweetheart and I wouldn't have him any other way. Most of the time, anyway :-D More coverage? Now we'll have to see about that!

RP, it looks like your husband plays it safe: better get everything that looks and sounds like it - one of them might be it! Needless to say, I freaked out on the phone and so he came home with 1lb of bhendi. He told me again when he got home that he had 7 or 8 individual pods in the plastic bag when he called me.

Shilpa, listens to me? No. And, yes, he was counting them as he spoke to me over the phone.

Very funny conversation indeed :-) (only coz I am playing the role of audience here). I guess everyone has their own quirks, I sometimes try to look the other way around just to avoid an uncomfortable situation(which is quite hard ofcourse).

KA, you are wise!

mommyof2, good to see you here!

HKG, I'm not sure I understand the reference to pseudo name. And yes, bhendi is our favorite vegetable, too. I couldn't understand it why people here detested it so much. Then I found out that it's because of the way it's handled (chopped while still wet) and then cooked!

I was referring to HKG, (shouldn't it be HGJ? But HKG goes with the 'ji' I guess!). Name "Harekrishna" was not available so I added JI.

Manisha,

That was good. I laughed. But I had to read it twice! My hubby is the opposite, he is more of a foodie than I am. I used to get scolded by him for not storing cilantro properly! Now he reads my cooking blog...

HKG, thanks for that clarification. Lately my brain has been numbed by lack of sleep and a nasty virus. You are right, of course! Navath kay ahe!

Kanchana, welcome! You learned quickly, eh?! My advice to all new couples remains: let him keep a foothold in the kitchen. Don't let him blind you with praise. That's their 'out' and they never come back in! Ask me! I know!
